Nandivelugu, the name comes from a Nandi [a holy bullock] treasured with
precious diamonds [Velugu means light of these diamonds]. This village
represents typical Andhra culture. Villagers live mainly on agriculture but
slowly count of farmers is reducing due to 'development'. It is a good symbol of
religious blend of India, this village has all three major religions: Hindi,
Muslim and Christian. All these three religions go well together and there no
conflicts.
It has beautiful nature which is good contribution to the rice bowl of Andhra.
Though the main crop is rice, there are many other commercial crops in this
village like sugar cane, turmeric, green gram, black gram etc. it also produces
vegetables like tomato, okra and many leafy vegetables. This village is locally
famous for its production of flowers like JASMINE and Lilly. Land of this
village is irrigated by two canals sourcing from the Prakasam dam of Krishna
River at Vijayawada. The third canal does exist but it was used for water based
transportation in ancient days but now it is used to irrigate remote lands.
Though small, this village has good history up to 6000 years in the past. A
local temple of goddess 'Kanaka Durga' is told to be 6000 years old. This temple
is famous locally for its beliefs and for the holy bullock which gave the name
to this village. One major Hindu festival called 'DASARAH' is a major
celebration of this village and next best to Vijayawada in this area. Other
festivals like VINAYA CHAVITHI, DIWALI, SRAVANA MASAM, KARTHIKA MASAM, SRIRAMA
NAVAMI are also celebrated very well here. This village also has 'Anjaneya
temple', which is 1100 years old. Big number of AYYAPAs can be seen in this
village during winter just before SANKRANTHI festival. SANKRANTHI is very
traditional here with HARIDASUs arriving to each house. It also has a famous old
HOUSE CONSTRUCTED WITH EGGS in its cement [not the traditional cement which we
see today].
It is one of the ideal villages around with all necessary public facilities like
roads, small hotels, shops, veterinary and human hospital, electricity and
telephone exchange. It is a major panchayat including few countries around. It
is well connected from all towns/cities around and is a small hub of public
transportation. This village may not be an attraction by itself but temples
during festive seasons is a real attraction and worth a visit.
